An article on time management

Life can be defined as distance in time between birth and death. Time is the very fabric of life.
We have, and we have always had,all the time there is. Leading an effective life can be equated to a large degree to judicious use of time. Utilization of time therefore is of utmost importance.

Time analysis and management
Money vs time:
Money is such an overrated topic. But reality is time is a great deal more than money. If you have time you can obtain money--usually. But even if you have infinite supply of money, you cannot buy yourself a minute more time.
Categorizing time:
At a very broad level even though we wish to claim all time is in our control, reality is slightly different. Bread need to earned, crying baby need to be attended immediately, yes watching TV for an hour can be avoided. So by this thought process, time can be categorized to two buckets: uncontrollable time and free time. Free time is something where we have freedom of choice on what we want to do without running away from our responsibility. World cares a damn that I have initiated this new time management system. Also it’s more of cowardice/lack of priority to run away from responsibilities in the name of time management.
Focus of action:
First we need to understand how much of time is free and how much is uncontrollable. For a week, make a list of all activities you do in 30 minute intervals. Don’t do any analysis or categorization or modification at this stage. Be your normal self. Once a week passes, make a list of all your roles and what are the responsibilities expected of these roles. Now try to map all the activities you have done in the past week to the responsibilities. This will give you which activities fall under free time category. Remember the very first action should be to take charge of free time. Next week onwards you can focus on utilizing more of free time to activities that align well with your aspiration.
Overcoming frustration of perfectionism:
People in their endeavor to take charge of time usually take shelter of time management books and materials. In their over zeal of taking charge of complete time, they then tend to get disappointed because of minor leakages. What they don’t realize is it is better to have lived a bit than never to have lived at all. The real tragedy is the tragedy of the man who has never tried it. It is always the man who has tasted life who demands more of it.
Delegating activities in responsibilities categories:
Please don’t attempt this step first. First and most of focus should be to utilize free time properly. This is more of an advanced time management technique. You can’t ask someone else to do push-ups for you. So it will be no surprise that many activities in your uncontrollable time must be done by you. But you will certainly have some room for optimization when you can afford help. For example you can hire baby sitter to take care of the baby while you get some uncontrollable time converted to free time. Once you have a very decent saving that can fetch you enough interest to earn a living and inflation, you can take up part time job converting part of uncontrollable time to free time. You can even consider retirement and complete entire bread earning time to free time.
What to do with free time:
This is very much depends on individual – his goals and aspiration. It may be spending time with family, charity work or even writing an article to share the joy of learning together.
Interesting quotations on time:
•You will never find time for anything. You must make it.
•Follow your dream as long as you live, do not lessen the time of following desire, for wasting time is an abomination of the spirit
•Sometimes our best is simply not enough. We have to do what is required
•It is observed that successful people get ahead in the time that other people waste
•Peak performance in life isn't about succeeding all the time or even being happy all the time. It's often about compensating, adjusting, and doing the best you can with what you have right now
