Introspection - the most unused powerful tool that has answers to all questions we have
In this era of instant gratification, we rarely make time to do an honest introspection. Introspection itself has answers to many questions that we try to get answers in aimless drifting.
Need for introspection:
If you observe a lion walking, it rarely keeps on walking forever. Instead it walks for some distance, turns back and takes a glimpse of what it has covered and then moves ahead. In life we always seem to be in a great hurry to move forward. So we rarely take time to analyze the past and take helpful hints on what has worked and how we can make it better, what has not worked and how we can correct mistakes. This analysis of the past is what is required most of the times to better our self and to preserve individuality. This process of introspection is of utmost importance to make our life better.
Great quotes on introspection:
•The philosophy of the wisest man that ever existed is mainly derived from the act of introspection.
•Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.
•The only journey is the one within
•Sometimes, you have to look back in order to understand the things that lie ahead.
•In order to understand the world, one has to turn away from it on occasion
Introspection points to act:
Some interesting, unexpected points may come out of introspection:
•Exercise extreme constraint while talking in emotionally high, low or bored situations
•Achieve a more stable personality [Avoid oscillating between extreme caution and blindfold recklessness
•Take initiatives and calculated risks after reasonable preparation (missed wonderful opportunities)
•Develop and enhance synergic networks (have been interacting with the same people for the past 10 years with very limited widening of circle)
•Base decision based on individual judgment rather than mood swing and opinion of others
•Balance between sowing and reaping (there is clearly a huge imbalance. Enormous effort is put repeatedly with minuscule profits)
•Get out (have nothing to do kind of feeling, locked up inside the house, no flow of further ideas,)
•Every initiative should have a beginning, execution and end and it should happen fast enough
•Be clear of the purpose (wondering around in different direction, playing the supporter role with no benefits, endless drafts of goals that are not acted, worst of all acted again and again till midpoint wasting energy and not reaping benefits)
•Being creatively alive and taking life easy
•Break routine by injecting purposeful changes (everyday seems the same way feeling, job and life in general dissatisfaction)
•Manage energy and self (tiredness due to over exhaustion, nervousness, perfectionist attitude, trying to do multiple things at the sametime, being more loyal than required, taking assignment too seriously, lack of physical exercise)
•Always have bigger purpose in mind and avoid getting sucked in the task and minuscule distraction
•Talk to all the people
•Be dynamic (avoid stagnation either in learning by repeatedly learning the same thing or in task by trying to do same thing over and over again)
•Take a firm stand, decide and act on those decisions promptly
•Keep a journal and continue to do introspection weekly once even if it feels bad in the beginning. The idea is to improve self so this feeling bad slowly comes down.
Feel free to post points that came out of your introspection exercise in comments. Trust me it will be enriching learning experience.
